Rome, Italy Part 1

Today’s Destination is: Rome, Italy Part 1

Travel Advice: When in Rome, wander around. Be a Roman. Meet some locals. That will be one of your favorite parts of the trip. And you can do that from every place you visit. Don’t just follow the guide. Follow your interests.

FAQ: How far in advance should I book my Airbnb?

Answer: For my Rome stay, I booked it three months in advance because I knew that this would be a challenge in the middle of summer. It worked out great for me. Don't wait too long to book when you know the destination will be busy. There are limited rooms, so you want to have the best pick at the price you want to pay. Other times, I have booked the day I wanted to stay, but that’s not normal. That would be more like a hotel.

Today’s Misstep: My big mistake in Rome was not having euros for tipping.

I needed some euros to spend on tips for tour guides and waitstaff. I changed my $20 bill and got only 12 euros. That was not a good exchange rate, so I learned better. Get your euros before you arrive in a touristy area like Rome. I could have tipped in dollars instead.
