FAQ:  How do I reduce my FOMO and add more JOMO (the Joy of missing out) when I travel?

Answer: Maybe one day, you just sleep in. The joy of being well-rested can carry you far, especially if you are not feeling well. So kick back, take the rest you need, and add more Joy to your life. You can miss out and like it. It’s up to you, no one else. If you are on a group trip, pick the day you are least likely to want to miss and just stay in. Get room service. Walk around the block, but don’t feel you must be on every touristy part of the trip. Make your adventure as if you are writing your own story. And, in some ways, you are.

Here’s the destination story:

Las Vegas. Part 1

What’s great about Las Vegas?

If you’re not a gambler, and I’m not, you can still have an adventurous time here, but you need to plan it and get some help ahead of time for the experience. Part One is mainly about the indoor experience in the urban area. Part Two will be about the great area outside.

My first time visiting here was for a conference, which may also be true for you. The area is one of the largest conference centers in the USA. I just attended CES, which had nearly 200,000 attendees. It’s spread out all over the city, so not in one location, so it may not seem that large.

I’ve been here a dozen times since my first conference, living in southern California for decades.

Let’s discuss finding some tourist attractions in the city and nearby.

If you arrive in Las Vegas by car in the heat of the day, you will want to cool down and relax after the long drive. I suggest you find a pool and chill.

The Venetian and the Wynn hotels have nicer pools where you can relax, but many others offer the same.

If you arrive via airplane, you will take a cab or a shared cab to the strip or downtown and check in at a hotel.

From there, you can indulge in upscale shopping at the Forum Shops at Caesars, The Shops at Crystals, or Fashion Show Mall. For high-end retail therapy, you can also stroll through Downtown, which offers unique boutiques and handmade goods. It’s a destination for people-watching, so be prepared for lots of walking and wear sturdy shoes. Leave the high heels at home.

You may want a spa day, so consider booking that treatment.

If you like flowers, find the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens for a peaceful solo exploration.  And there are art galleries, too. Try the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art or local galleries in the Arts District. There’s also a Neo Museum with iconic signs.

For fine dining, you can eat at restaurants led by celebrity chefs like Gordan Ramsay, Giana De Laurentiis, or Wolfgang Puck. Food tours can also be booked.

For entertainment, you can see productions like O at Bellagio, Blue Man, or Cirqu de Soleail, among others. There are also concerts and comedy shows. Check out the Sphere, run by MSG, which is the same people who run Madison Square Garden in New York. The interior features the world's largest LED screen, which wraps around 270 degrees to create an immersive visual experience.

Advanced audio technology includes a beam-forming sound system that delivers clear audio to every seat.

The Sphere uses 4D effects like wind, scent, and temperature changes to create a fully immersive experience. It can hold up to 20,000 people for concerts and other events.

Downtown, you can find the Fremont Street Experience. It’s a nightly light show with street performers. You also might want to do a wine tasting or mixology glass to meet other travelers. Avoid overindulging in alcohol.

Today’s Misstep- I Spilled the candle wax.

The Air BNB I stayed at with Maria was homey. They had a night light on in my room. I decided to turn off the light in the middle of the night. But then, I could not find the off switch, and OOOPS, I found it to be scented candle wax, and I spilled it all over the wall, the table, my backpack, and my tennis shoes. Don’t spill the wax like I did.

Today’s Travel Advice- Look for adventure close to home.

You may find the adventure in your backyard. Look for a bird, a bug, a child, or a dog. Smell the air for any new scents. What is the season?

It may turn out that you don’t need a passport; you only need a pair of good walking shoes. That could start a new adventure, so go for it.

Your curiosity is the only constraint to your next travel exploration.
